Allen Holub@stux But we cannot take up the slack because Mastodon, by design, cannot do things that people need that Twitter does well (e.g., increase reach). Twitter failing is a lose-lose proposition for all of us. It's a solvable problem, but I don't see it being solved.

No. More the way that people discover people they don't know about—network effect. Twitter has been both a great publishing and a great marketing vehicle for me because I can present my ideas to so many people—even ones I don't know who don't know about me. That's harder to do on Mastodon. I've never paid to promote a tweet, so I don't miss that 😄.
