If Dems don't defend libraries, WTF are they for?

RT @[email protected]

NYC mayor Eric Adams is demanding city libraries to cut their budgets by $13.6 million by the end of fiscal year 2023, and another $20.5 million over the next 3 fiscal years. This will be devastating for the services and operations of the library system.

Eric Adams’s Public Library Cuts Would Devastate a System Average New Yorkers Need

New York’s public libraries are essential institutions providing a wide range of services and cultural programming on top of books and media. If Eric Adams’s proposed library cuts go through, huge numbers of New Yorkers will suffer immensely.

@drvolts
That asshole is the worst kind of politician. He’s party “Adams” all the way.
@timpalmer @drvolts Adams isn't a real Dem.
@drvolts @LightThiefProductions
I was going to say that, but NY Dems have some, umm, wide variations in outlook, shall we say. I wouldn’t call Cuomo a Dem for that matter.
@drvolts
What Adams does has nothing to do with Dems support for libraries. He’s just not a good a mayor.
@drvolts Adams isn't a Dem, he's a cop. I'm sure he will funnel that money into the pockets of his friends.
@drvolts Someone wrote, and it helped me thereafter, that ‘the key to understanding NY politics is that some of the democrats are democrats, and some of the democrats are republicans’.
He has also queried why the library systems weren’t funded as part of the Dept of Education, which illustrates his current depth of understanding of their mission in society and NYC…
@drvolts won’t boost due to the entirely musk platform mention. The play is 100% compromised. Sad actually pathetic journalists still use it.
@drvolts dem mayor in Philly tried similar about 10 years ago. Citizens rallied and limited the damage.

@drvolts
If Dems don't defend libraries, WTF are they for?

a question that has been asked since the Democratic Convention in 1964 and has yet to be answered.

I believe the Biden Presidency is answering that question in the face of entrenched red in tooth and claw econimic interests and a resurgent anti-democracy from GOP harking back to late 1950s early 1960s of John Birch Society's which is alive and well in 21st century

@drvolts why not cut all departments same % across the board, or do libraries have such a non vocal support base. Maybe librarians should join the FOP for protection
