It's fascinating and disturbing watching people take the plain language of the new policy and twist it to mean "well, they're really only going after spammers..."

It is clearly not that. There are two separate sections, one specifically about content *on the tweet level* and another on suspension of accounts.

People are happily concluding the latter precludes the former and it's driving me mad.

@TechConnectify people circling the “solely” and completely ignoring the rest of the policy, I’m not sure they are maliciously ignoring it or they are actually not getting it.

@cisne I think they earnestly think that it clarifies and/or qualifies everything prior.

Policy language can be confusing. In this case they're ignoring the "content" and "accounts" distinction, methinks.

@TechConnectify @cisne They're also ignoring the fact that Twitter had already been banning people who post links to Mastodon and preventing people from linking to it in their profile for a few days now.

All they did today was to formally write down that policy and escalate it by adding Instagram, Facebook and a bunch of other sites to the ban.
