by any chance is anyone familiar with home solar in the UK, and specifically renewable energy credits based on it? have a few questions. DM if this happens to be you!

@molly0xfff yup! See https://shkspr.mobi/blog/tag/solar/

Are you by any chance looking at Rowan solar's weird blockchain thing?
I wrote about it at https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2021/05/a-weird-solar-blockchain-thing-rowan-energy/

Solar Panels and FIT

Terence Edenโ€™s Blog
@Edent @molly0xfff If they're talking about Renewables Obligation certificates, AFAIK that's a legacy scheme that hasn't accepted any new generating capacity for a number of years.
@Grouchybeast @molly0xfff I think they still exist. I spoke to Ofgem about it earlier this year.
@Edent hah, you got it!

@molly0xfff I spent far too long on their Discord and couldn't get a straight answer on anything.

I currently sell back solar to the grid at a variable rate - which seems in excess of what they were purportedly offering.

I can sort of see the value in selling carbon offsets but - as ever - can't find a use for their Blockchain implementation.

@molly0xfff Somewhat familiar, but there are better people out there. Simon Evans @ Carbon Brief is an expert in this area I think.
@molly0xfff
Not sure how to DM but I have home solar.
@molly0xfff The system has changed several times over the years and so I think it depends on the rules on the installation date. Do you mind whether it is old or new rules?
@molly0xfff I believe @revk is likely to know the details of solar in the uk.
@isomer @molly0xfff There have been various schemes, but now it is pretty simple - you can sell export to your energy provider (can actually be separate provider for import and export, but usually better deal with both the same). The tariffs vary a *lot*. In pretty much all cases better to self-consume, and so have a battery. Start here: https://www.revk.uk/2022/04/solar-install-part-1.html
Solar install, part 1

I finally have a solar install, and a battery on order. So this blog is the first one on this - I don't have a lot of data yet as it just we...

@molly0xfff
Perhaps @takeitev could help with solar questions?
@molly0xfff not familiar with any credits system. We have something called FIT, but Iโ€™m not up to date on that.
Best to call reputable solar installer and ask them.
Look up Kevin at SolarShed. Heโ€™s always up to help.

@molly0xfff I'm much more familiar with the regs and benefits in Canada and the US. Often differs at the regional or municipal level.

In terms of the blockchain part you might be interested in projects like Seven Energy in Norway doing community energy microgrids or ZeroLabs or Helios using RECs to finance projects.

I'm curious what has happened with the Brooklyn MicroGrid project if you are digging around and learn more.

Happy to discuss all this further if you would like.
