@rwba @[email protected] @stevewfolds @muz4now @Imprint I think the intensity of a lot of 70s and 80s jazz/fusion is a bit too much for many modern ears - both the music, and maybe the sound as well, especially as it gets colder and brighter into the 80s.

I heard someone's kid describe '80s David Sanborn as a screeching nightmare (which I kind of get, if it was the "A Change of Heart" LP!) But my kids (13 to 19) like cozy "café jazz" – and pre-fusion jazz goes down pretty well.

@terjefjelde @rwba @grbenny @stevewfolds @Imprint The jazz fusion band I played in when I lived in Scotland was totally into Mahavishnu Orchestra. That was 1975-1977, so in the pocket of what you are describing. I don’t really listen to that music much anymore, but I owe my introduction to all sorts of jazz to that time.
I still remember when the guitarist leaned over to me and said, “It’s your turn to take a solo.“ From that moment on, I’ve been an improviser.
@muz4now @rwba @[email protected] @stevewfolds @Imprint I wish someone had said that to me! (not very likely, though, because in my youth my main instrument was... the tuba!)
@stevewfolds @rwba @terjefjelde @Imprint @grbenny I played in an improv quartet (briefly) that consisted of tuba, drums, trumpet, and me on piano. So… it could happen!
@muz4now @stevewfolds @rwba @Imprint @[email protected] Too late now, I'm afraid – I have traded my tuba excellence for compositionally functional keyboard skills. 😁
@Imprint @rwba @terjefjelde @grbenny @stevewfolds I hear you.
BTW, followed Mountainé and added your orchestra to my listening lists.

@muz4now @Imprint @rwba @[email protected] @stevewfolds Oh, the adventures you have in store! (please bear in mind that it's my personal playground - not everything is well thought through! And a lot of experiments in limitations - one synth challenges, specifically...) 😁

Thanks so much! Are you on any streaming services?

Hey, do you stream your music? Yes!
