Oddball Mastodon wish list (with respect):

--Not having to include the https:// in front of URLs

--Having direct messages show up with a different background color or something to better distinguish them from your regular feed (not saying they have to be like #birdsite's "separate screen/tab" but they should still be easier to separate out

--Link preview cards for the mobile app (they work on the desktop browser already)

--Given the massive influx of #birdsite refugees, is there a way of shortening #birdsite handles so it doesn't tack on "@twitter" after them while still distinguishing them as such? Perhaps having the handle in a different color/font or something from Mastodon handles?

--QuoteToots would be nice (Yes, I know this is controversial & understand the reason for not including them, just throwing it in there).

--GIPHY integration at some point perhaps?

I know "Mastodon isn't #BirdSite, it's its own thing" but that doesn't mean these are bad features to have; they shouldn't be rejected outright *just* because TW has them already. The good ideas should be incorporated (if feasible), the bad ones shouldn't be.

Oh, also: Anyone know why the search bar is on the top *left* of the browser interface instead of on the right side with everything else? Or why it disappears entirely on a too-narrow browser window? Can that be changed in prefs?

@charlesgaba On Android, gboard keyboard includes a GIF function so you can search and send directly within. Not sure if iphone (assuming you use one) had it but it's a life-changer
@vijtable Hmmm yes I use an iPhone, I'll look into it there. I was thinking of the desktop browser as well but that might be a handy solution for my phone, thanks!
@vijtable Hmmm...the gif only seems to work in Toot! On iPhone, when I tried on the actual Mastodon app it just gave a still shot.
@charlesgaba Oh right. I'm using Tusky client instead of mastodon (not sure if it exists for iPhone)... Will reply with gif in main app
@charlesgaba N-n-noooooooo please not GIPHY! I’m so glad to actually see words in my replies for a change.
@charlesgaba the "direct messages" one should probably wait until an actual secure DM system is added, instead of the "post that only tagged people can see" thing

@charlesgaba the iOS app is definitely a bit on the raw side but hopefully it’s catching up to where it needs to be.

My wish list for the app:
- being able to follow someone from a post that you like. Currently only block or mute.
- posts that are filtered appear as a big empty space in your feed instead of just not appearing at all.

@charlesgaba one more of the wishlist is better language recognition. If they can’t automatically translate a post into a language I understand, then it doesn’t help to show it to me. Just filter it out for me please.

@charlesgaba

I would boost a lot more if I could cw those boosts
