I highly recommend two documentaries featuring Nina Simone (the first one features her for only a few minutes but is well worth watching):

SUMMER OF SOUL (2021) - directed by Questlove

WHAT HAPPENED, MISS SIMONE? (2015) - directed by Liz Garbus

@popcornreel #SummerOfSoul is such a phenomenal documentary!
The whole time, I was 🤯
Strong second on that documentary from #QuestLove

Summer of Soul was amazing and I was all over the place emotionally. I believe that I hadn’t thought about Gil Scott Heron’s “Whitey on the Moon” for a long time, and when I played it for my 23 year old daughter she was almost crying.

@tattoo55 Excellent documentary, indeed. The emotional pulse and crescendo is palpable. I was stirred, inspired and buoyed by this great film. Glad to hear that your daughter felt the impact. Like you I hadn’t heard or thought about “Whitey On The Moon” for many years. Of course there is “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” and others. Gil Scott Heron was pure poetic genius.
@popcornreel "Summer of Soul" is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. Truly inspiring.
