@Monday before college i sat at a desk for almost six years. 30k/y before taxes and insurance was "making it" after working in food service for just as many years for half as much w/o insurance and longer hours. any wage job requires that kind of head-down silence.

now? i don't know if would get out of bed for less than 20/h. granted, my wife works now (we traded) and makes way more money than i even did. so admittedly i have that privilege.

@casserly ah, perhaps my wording was bad. I meant live as in that’s your home life.

@Monday oh, gotcha. that would be rough because home life doesn't go away when you punch out for the day. but i don't think my answer would change. 40k *in savings* is a life-altering amount of money.

barring safety, my smooth brain would just grit it's teeth.

@casserly double that amount to allow for (assumed) conversion rate.

@Monday aus (1.5) -> usd (1) but anything in the double-digit-k range would make me salivate tbh.

or more responsible things like loans, tuition, and bills i guess.
