Ok I'm officially sick of windows pulling shit like reinstalling edge and nagging me to buy office every update.

I need recommendations for a linux distro with the following features*
- easy for newcomers
- easy to run Windows software
- good perf/support for games (incl windows ones)
- decent community in case i have questions

*I'm asking for recommendations based on my listed needs. Don't recommend me one just because it's your favorite.

@cratesmith I'm currently using Manjaro Gnome, have been for a while, and it's very usable. My mum got started on Linux in her 50s with Mint Debian Edition though - she's not techy *at all* and loved it and then was telling all her friends to switch to Linux XD

Ability to run Windows games and software is largely independent of the distro; they'll all use things like WINE or Bottles to do it. Games work best through Steam, even non-Steam games where you can add them to Steam then-

@cratesmith - force them to use Proton. Valve are putting huge work into making this as easy as possible while they're working on the Steam Deck.

Mint and Manjaro are both big distros with established userbases, too.

@cratesmith Also, 'just reinstall the OS' is a very very viable fix for a lot of problems with Linux given how quickly the OS installs. It's often much preferable to do that than spend hours trying to troubleshoot something and fix it, which is very different to how it would be on Windows. XD
