Too Close Duck

Made the #migration today from #twitter and am angry/sad that it was necessary. The multiplying problems with stuck feeds & disappearing people weren't enough... I bailed when the journalists were given the ban-hammer today by that fragile kinglet Musk in the #TwitterPurge

I am taking a deep breath, though.

When I first tried out Twitter, half the fun was figuring out how things worked - and hey, this place is so full of brand new folks, we all get to start anew.

@2closeduck Welcome! Don’t look at the past, think about future. Musk has just accelerated a natural process. Social networks ruled by algorithms designed to boost ads are toxic places.

I just got here too! Still trying to figure this place out... the lack of persistent ads when I scroll is the first think I noticed. It's a serene feel; hadn't noticed how oppressive they'd gotten at Twitter but it makes a huge difference!
When you find time, make a little blurb in your profile intro about your interests - generalities are fine, I'm not too big on self-exposure online - but it helps people craft an idea of who they're talking to.

Also learning that hashtags are fairly important here. So you might have questions on how to do something, you can search #newbie for answers or post your own question with that hashtag included in your post.
Another useful one I've discovered is #migration.
Have been discovering themes used here & playing with that; #SilentSunday & the like. Couldn't tell you about general culture here as I'm way too new.
