Heads up: it seems official now that Elon, in a fit of diaper-filling, has ordered his few remaining developers to blacklist links leading to Mastodon instances.

You cannot share these links when composing new tweets and if you have links in your profile or bio, it will be harder for people to click on them and follow you from there.

Super shriveling dick energy from emerald boy.

As a community, it would probably be good if we re-engage the creators who have been developing and maintaining the Fedifinder tool at glitch.me so that this tool gets an update which allows people to add Mastodon links to their pinned profile or their Twitter bio in the syntax of instance[dot]TLD and then that can bypass the Twitter filters but the Fedifnder tool will hopefully still pick it up.

Adding @Luca to this thread since I believe they are the primary maintainer as well as the original creator of the Fedifinder tool.

What is a potential new syntax that we could recommend friends use when adding Mastodon references to their Twitter bio?

Looks like a ladders and walls game may be afoot, but trying to stay one step ahead of the emerald prince will become essential if we want to help those of us at risk of being left behind.

@deviantollam @Luca I don't know enough about Mastodon cross-instance searching, but can tools invert the process? Scan your followed on Twitter and hunt for their handle somewhere in the Mastodon Fediverse? Elon has no control on this side of the fence.
@mgoffin This (probably)isn't feasible. There are too many instances.

Also, having /something/ on the birdsite is essential for verification purposes, otherwise anyone could set up a profile here and claim it to be the same person as a random birdsite account.
@katrinatransfem @knd775 They can do that now. Was just a way to think outside the box. Not sure if we could set it up such that Mastodon could use Twitter auth to "verify" before allowing you to add your Twitter handle to your profile. Then I guess Twitter could block Mastodon doing that? /shrugs
