Books by James Baldwin, one of America’s greatest intellectuals, humanists and activists (he was also a film critic* and historian) that I highly recommend. Well, I highly recommend all of them including the one in my photo. Here are just a few of the other Baldwin books you must read:

Go Tell It On The Mountain
Notes Of A Native Son
No Name In The Street
The Devil Finds Work*
Another Country
If Beale Street Could Talk
The Evidence Of Things Not Seen

@popcornreel Thank you! I was reading 'Stolen Focus' and the author mentions James Baldwin in passing as his favourite 20th century writer. So this is timely!
@popcornreel Baldwin is maybe my favorite author and intellectual. My IQ rises every time I hear him speak. The documentary “I Am Not Your Negro” is also a great watch. The posthumous works are speculative, of course, but I think the right people were involved in its making.
@markwyner Mark, I was literally *just* about to post about the documentary! It is an excellent documentary and I will be posting on this in moments.
@popcornreel reading Giovanni's Room I was stunned by his brilliant use of language to tell such a nuanced and tragic story
@popcornreel Recently read "Go Tell It On The Mountain". I saw a movie version that helped me understand the ecstatic experiences;
@popcornreel to add to the list: Tell Me How Long the Train’s Been Gone was my intro to Baldwin and remains one of my favorites.
@popcornreel I was going to comment on the missing and phenomenal “The Fire Next Time.” And then I saw the picture! That’s the one I have. I love this book so much. I was like, why didn’t I read this as part of school! And then remembered, oh yeah. That’s actually in the book, too.
@popcornreel
Evidence Of Things Not Seen was a chore to get through, but worth it.
@popcornreel Another Country is one of my all-time favorite NYC novels. I should reread it someday.
