This “Elon is free to do what he wants on Twitter, and you’re free to move elsewhere” is a very american take.

Elon must comply with European laws and regulations in data protection, anti-trust, anti-discrimination, etc or the EU will seize his property to enforce fines or make Twitter unavailable for EU.

@szbalint this seems kinda naive considering he'd just whip up his right-wing conspiracy theory believing base into action against perceived government overreach

like lol, just imagine the backlash if the current Democrat led American government hit twitter with any sort of regulatory fines or investigations.

@fack @lizbrownmorgan @szbalint I see where you’re coming from, but I think what others are saying is that there is a basic amount of accountability that needs to happen to bring Twitter back in line with EU law (and even American law) that isn’t political in other countries. Americans have a habit of politicizing this, and so it feels like nothing’s gonna happen. I think it’s getting to a point where the rule of law needs to be upheld regardless.
