Wondering how badly things would break if I migrated this account (the singular admin account on this instance) to a new instance.
One would expect that nothing happens, because the account stays put, and credentials don't change... But I haven't seen the documentation for this process.

I suppose I also feel that I've alienated myself by strongly critiquing the moderation/administration of the instance most my irl friends joined.
I dunno if this is just a vibe I get, a residual element of authorized_fetch, or maybe my friends don't use mastodon as much as they used twitter, and I'm just imagining things, or I've been too brash about my disdain for mastodon itself and my friends just find that tiresome.
Mastodon is probably a lot more fun as a simple end-user on someone else's instance. But boy oh boy I am stressed running a service that other people use [infinitesimally less than I do lol].
Feels silly that the straw that broke the camel's back was a new software release, but yeah I just don't wanna maintain this shit.
Last month I bumped up the resources on my VM so that sidekiq wouldn't crash due to OOM every 8 hours, filling up the queues, causing 2hr delays in viewing and posting toots, and causing assloads of 500 errors.
That caused me to pay 5 dollars for a month of this. Up from 9ยข the previous 2 months. This proved too much of an investment for me.
Maybe I'll explore some alternatives in the future, but I can't continue to force myself to run something I hate as much as fediverse software lol, my irl friends know my intense disdain for this stuff, and I figured by offering space on this very public experiment I would feel more obligated to follow through with it. Sadly a lemon is a lemon. And I don't feel like making any more lemonade.
It'll be cool when Elon sells Twitter to Yahoo.
Unfortunately the way moderation and federation here works all feels like a weird form of collective punishment that really just harms the end users.
Moderating my instance was easy, but it still felt bad because my only rule is "hey don't be a dick" and telling friends they're being dicks (lest our entire instance get defederated) isn't really what I signed up to do, but that's on me for being naive.
In retrospect the part of social media I enjoy is having fun, and I don't have that much fun here.
My intent with running this instance was to explore the fediverse, boycott twitter, and try to make a landing space for my friends so they could make the jump too.
The dominant culture of the fediverse is absolutely not one that meshes with my ideological affinities. The mainstream here really does just feel like a lib version of truth.social .
