Lol. So, uh, yeah. From @internetarchive I see that this is the last tweet that Mastodon has posted on the other site, pointing people to @elonjet

@mmasnick

I expect Musk was going to end up taking down the @[email protected] account at some point anyway. But posting this just gave him an excuse to do it immediately, without having to take a second hit later for changing the rules a second time to prohibit competitor advertising or something else stupid that makes him look bad.

It's like being insubordinate to a boss who is trying to make you quit instead of laying you off: you're just making it easier for the jerk to get what he wants.

@larthallor @mmasnick This doesn’t make him look bad, you think?
@juneussell @mmasnick Sure. But not as bad to as many people as it would have looked if they hadn’t tried to promote an account he had just labeled a threat to his child’s physical safety. They gave Musk the cover to do what he wanted to do anyway.
@juneussell @mmasnick I agree with you about Musk ultimately reinstating the reporters. This will simultaneously mollify and cow them and they will stay with him like the abusive husband he most obviously is going to be.
@mmasnick @juneussell And it’s all so dumb, because big media companies DO have the power to establish themselves on Mastodon and help grow this platform to the point where people don’t need Twitter anymore.
@larthallor @mmasnick His labelling it ‘a threat to his child’s safety’ is risible though
