I joined Mastodon a few days ago but didn’t know about #introduction Here goes … I’ve fallen out of love of all the nastiness on Twitter. I hoping the far more friendly vibe here continues! I’m based in the UK but not long back from the most amazing road trip through the High Plains of Montana and North Dakota.
@ccullen22 Welcome to the free world of nice people Chris. :)
@ccullen22
Welcome Chris. The great thing about here is people follow a much wider range of accounts and interests to build their own algorithms. The best advice I was given was to follow follow follow and use hashtags liberally as people use them to find like minded friends. Good luck. It’s fun here 🤞🏼👍

There aren't any algorithms. You see everything from your followers, your local instance & with the right app, federated toots too. You can add filters to reduce what you want to see. You can change instances to ones with greater control & moderation or join multiple instances. I use Tusky App as it's got a separate tab for hashtag searches/follows
@ccullen22 I spent 6 months in North Dakota in 2014 , a very cold place
@damiansixx_ agreed. The coldest day was -14 F
@ccullen22 Great pic! Old buildings are wonderful subjects.

@ccullen22 Chris welcome home!

You and your beautiful but moody photos are very welcome here. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work and what sounds like some excellent travels

@ccullen22 hi Chris 👋🏻 Welcome to the kinder place 🙂❄️
@ccullen22 Wonderful picture! Is the tower leaning or is just an illusion?
@neromancer it’s leaning very dangerously and will collapse very soon
@ccullen22 great image, looking forward to seeing more of your road trip images 😊 oh and welcome to mastodon 😉
@LindaEnfield thanks Linda- much appreciated!

@ccullen22

👋👋👋 Welcome. I'm new here too. So far so good.

@ccullen22
That’s really good. 👏
@Shempa79 thanks! Good to see someone else from Edinburgh on here (yes, I know Leith isn’t technically Edinburgh really😂)
@ccullen22 Welcome. You are among friends. Take off your coat and sit a spell.

@ccullen22 @Shempa79 Have you written about that? I'd love to read it, and see more of your images.

BUT - BIG BUT - can I ask that you consider folk who use a screen reader to access mastodon? Putting a description against each Image makes it so useful for them and, if you get a little lyrical about things, you can not only just describe the view, but how it feels!

As a rule, many of us on here won't boost images without description - and your stuff deserves shared.

@Anderson @Shempa79 hi there. Thanks. You’re the third person to tell me. No problem. All posts will have descriptions from now on!
@ccullen22 @Shempa79 separate point - I was at school in Edinburgh with a Chris Cullen, who has an older brother Neil. Not you, perchance?
@Anderson @Shempa79 sorry no. I was at school in Edinburgh too but no brother called Neil
@ccullen22 it's a really friendly place, the folk who have been here for ages are very welcoming to the Twitter refugees :) I much prefer it.
@ccullen22 Just followed you. Your photos take me back to exploring abandoned homesteads with my Dad as a child. He is now long gone but those memories of Saturday day long treks and adventures exploring the backroads are with me forever.
@ResaMar hi there. Nice to meet a fellow medic. I’m glad you like the photos. I’ll post more over the coming days
@ccullen22 if you joined a few days ago 200+ followers is good going. I’ve been on 2weeks and managed 7
@Mikerwfb well, it’s been 2 weeks now. I’m surprised too. I’m trying out VERO too but growth there is amazingly slow.

@ccullen22 I am totally with you mate!!

[Today I was compared to Hitler... again!! The abuse on the other platform is unrelenting and horrid]

@marctennant the number of times I’ve been told I should be struck off the medical register is too many to count!😂
