After tonight, if you're a journalist on Twitter, I lose a little bit of respect for you.
@scottmstedman I think people should continue to maintain a presence as long as possible. But at every opportunity, tweet things that send the conversation to other sites. (Although Musk is currently blocking all the big Mastodon server URLs from being tweeted).
@thomasafine respectfully disagree. I think an active presence now is implicit approval of Musk being a dictator.
@scottmstedman To quote Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse: "Opinions vary".

@scottmstedman Matt Taibi said you're just jealous of his massive new fame.
@scottmstedman Does the fact I quit in 2017 (just after trump one) give me extra credibility and respect?
@scottmstedman Shouldn't NBC, NYT, Washington Post, AP and all the other media biggies be pulling their own Twitter accounts first?

IMHO, Elon is telling on himself with his claim that journalists are a threat to his life. This is significant because there are no laws or morals when one's life is in danger.

In Elon's mind, Mohammed bin Salman, Peter Thiel, Jeff Bezos, Vladimir Putin, and the entire billionaire boy's club are in agreement about the need to discipline journos. So he's confident right now.

tl;dr: Twitter is a honeypot. It's not a safe place for sensitive communication.

Evidence my hunch was correct:

“This case exposes attempts by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to illegally obtain personally identifiable information in order to target critics and dissidents,” said Assistant Director Alan E. Kohler Jr. of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division."

This happened yesterday. Please get smart journalists to look into this.

Former Twitter Employee Sentenced to 42 Months in Federal Prison for Acting as a Foreign Agent

A California man was sentenced yesterday to 42 months in federal prison for his role in accessing, monitoring and conveying confidential and sensitive information that could be used to identify and locate Twitter users of interest to the Saudi Royal Family.

@peatbog They were arrested in 2019 and it was covered a lot then.
@scottmstedman Oh cool beans, I was wondering why nobody was talking about it. The Saudis worry me.

I’m still there to monitor and report the #twitterfall but my main interactions are in the Public Garden (as opposed to the walled kind)
