I'm having difficulty credibly teaching all the platforms in my Social Media Marketing course.

Twitter is a dumpster fire.
Meta is eroding into the abyss.
TikTok is allegedly a national security leak.
YouTube requires professional recording experience.
Only 69 of 1719 follows are here.

100% I'm going to be left with Pinterest.

@srossmktg have you tried movetodon.org? I found a bunch of bird app refugees that way.

otherwise I'm gonna be stuck shitposting on LinkedIn

@lukasneville I have. Some of those 69 were redundant (eg you).

The reality is, as long as there's signal content there, there's still irreplaceable value. Last night I saw an RT in my feed and learned of a relevant journal I managed to never hear about in its 12 years. Odds are I would've missed it elsewhere too.

Also, I hate LinkedIn. It's probably one of the lowest on my sites. 17 years on it? and it still is the pinnacle of career social comparison.

@srossmktg LinkedIn is the absolute worst, I can't take the relentless cheerfulness and corporate bootlicking and everyone being so #humbled and #honoured to share their #bitofpersonalnews
@lukasneville That's my thoughts exactly. "It's my honor to tell everyone that I have the distinguished opportunity to be nominated as..."
@lukasneville Share good news, but what happened to "simple and direct?" Also, why does "authenticity" have to be all work-related? One of the worst neoliberalized elements of social media was the blur between "authentic" and "always-working" culture. Dude, sometimes I want to talk about coffee. Or Habs games. Or shitty TV. (Twitter was good for that all.)
@srossmktg what I liked about the bird app was the lack of varnish
@srossmktg Glad I teach Music to little ones. Am interested to follow along, though. (What is a #fakenadian?)

@Whyvonne My oldest little one is taking clarinet now. God bless you. šŸ˜‚

Fakenadian = fake Canadian. I did my undergrad in Montreal and since not many Americans study in Canada, when people see my creds, they just assume I'm from there. I was a cultural sponge there and keep plugged, so it adds to the mystique.

@srossmktg I wish the clarinet player much success. Like the Canadian connection. Thanks for explaining.
@srossmktg Security risk or not, TikTok is still currently the best of that bunch! And YouTube is very watchable if you pay to have no ads. But I’m also scratching my head about what to talk about in digital marketing next semester.
@srossmktg I can only imagine. Also trying to advise my organization is tricky. Anyway, setting up shop here for now & trying to find my Tumblr password...
@KyleFreund I'm still struggling with all the alternatives. The entire broadcast microblogging space is now incredibly frothy.
@srossmktg And I can't wait until they put more resources over here to make it a bit more seamless for finding/connecting & sharing. I love the federation idea, but in current state it's a pretty wonky.
