157 years after 40 Acres and a Mule and still not surprising. Whenever it comes to specifically benefiting Black folks, America always got a problem with it. It’s worth asking why.

Black and White Americans are far apart in their views of reparations for slavery

Overall, 30% of U.S. adults say descendants of people enslaved in the U.S. should be repaid in some way. 68% say they should not be repaid.

@Deglassco Do many of those surveyed understand that the land in this country was taken from Native Americans and either immediately settled or given to whites, most of whom were poor. For example the land rush Oklahoma. The foundation of today’s society was laid on yesterday’s conflict to settle and after the relocation of Native Americans the land was freely given to white settlers. Some of today’s respondents live on land that 2 centuries ago was given to their ancestors. That’s a payment.
@Astiman intellectually, many people understand that, but they have manifest destiny on the brain. The Native Americans did not have a conceptualization of land ownership brought over by Europeans. To the European mind, Native Americans weren’t making a profit off the land, so they were wasting a valuable resource.
