🧵 🆕 The European Parliament has overwhelmingly adopted a resolution related to the recent #Qatargate corruption scandal and the need for more transparency and accountability in European institutions.

‼️ MEPs decided to suspend "all work on legislative files relating to #Qatar, particularly visa liberalisation, the EU aviation agreement with 🇶🇦 and planned visits, until the allegation have either been confirmed or dismissed."
- 🇪🇺 The Transparency Register is a tool to allow European citizens to see what interests are being represented at Union level and on whose behalf, as well as the financial and human resources dedicated to these activities.
The MEPs called for the register to be mandatory.
- In the future, there will be a "cooling off period" for members of the European Parliament to prevent them from influencing the work of Parliament as lobbyists.
- MEPs also urged the European Commission to "put forward a proposal to set up the ethics body as possible."
They called for a "committee of inquiry in order to investigate cases of corruption and improper actions by non-EU countries seeking to buy influence in the European Parliament."
