@black_intellect I disagree with that move. Better to educate, not hide history. We should learn and understand our mistakes.
@MonarchNursery @black_intellect But a statue is a tribute. We should study and learn from it but not revere it. His legacy of oppression is well documented. He doesn’t deserve a monument.
@jlawhead @black_intellect If people MUST interpret the statues as tributes, then get rid of all of them. Being selective about history is part of what’s hindering us from moving away from racism. This picking and choosing from history is misleading no matter what’s chosen to present.
@MonarchNursery @black_intellect World War II is a significant part of our history. We don’t require statues of Hitler to know that. That’s not cherry picking either.
@jlawhead @black_intellect We are talking about the Capitol of the US and a hall of Chief Justices. It’s a historical presentation, or should be, not a glorification of flawed individuals. All of the Chief Justices should be presented with educational signage or none.
@MonarchNursery @black_intellect if it has to be absolutist, all-or-nothing, then I vote none.
@jlawhead @black_intellect Fine. Now let’s address presidents’ portraits. Trump is hanging there (or will…I haven’t paid attention). I’m pretty unhappy about that.
