A minor irony here: Twitter certainly blundered in blocking the Hunter laptop story, but that did at least involve genuinely private information obtained and published without consent. Flight tracking information MUST be publicly broadcast by law.

@normative not sure about sharing sexual photos without consent when someone is dead, but the material was still very much against Twitter's TOS. So no, they didn't blunder; this is a manufactured scandal.

But yes about the flight info, that's 100% thin skin.

@normative I would argue that they didn't, since despite the media's best efforts, there was no way to authenticate the data as a whole, which probably sent their legal departments into a fit (NYT v Sullivan likely wouldn't apply since Hunter was not a public figure), and they decided that discretion was the better part of litigation.

Twitter banned stories about the laptop, not just pictures. You know that. why lie? It was wrong.

@normative The laptop gets dropped off at the store, Store guy thinks the content looks possibly illegal, calls the cops, and gives them the laptop, but before doing that makes a copy of the hard drive and passes it around to Republican/Trump folks.
