Tonight I read a boomer reply that states that they “hand coded” their source, and I have to ask, wtf does “hand coded” mean? They typed it in? When is it not typed in?
I mean, apart from the ad hominem attack (and btw I’m fairly sure we weren’t selling BFD on the same shelf as Wizoo), in what way is his answer in any way relevant to my point? And why do I have to email him now?
@cubusaddendum Maybe they think everyone else just copy-pastes from Stack Overflow? I mean, I hear jokes about that all the time, but I'm not sure anyone really _ships_ that way...
@invicticide I certainly don’t ship code that way. But I get the feeling he meant something else, like he didn’t outsource the work or whatever.

@cubusaddendum he inscribed it by hand onto the hard drive with a tiny chisel?

Not sure what else it could mean!

@cubusaddendum my geriatric millennial technique is to smash my face on the keyboard so the code contains my rage
@cubusaddendum maybe they meant in contrast to using tools like copilot?
@cubusaddendum same as from scratch, built from ground up not relying on underlying architecture I believe. "I hand coded our engine" as opposed to using Unity/Unreal or any libraries. Whether this is what they meant not sure as I've heard people use it same way they would say 'I wrote a script'.
@ragical he’s talking about his DSP algorithms, small code size, all maths and look-up tables. I get the impression his personal myth is a little out of control.
