I took the GLX from Medford to Northeastern this morning. I couldn't make out the community path, though, and I'm wondering where it begins. In Medford? Closer to the city? Maybe @cmilneil knows. #boston #MBTA
@dankennedy_nu It peels off from the GLX route near the Magoun stop. That segment, which runs on an abandoned rail spur, has been open for decades and is on Google Maps:
@cmilneil I've biked on that stretch, from Alewife through Davis Square to the end. I hoped there would be a new path along the tracks starting and ending at Medford/Tufts, but I guess not.
@dankennedy_nu College Avenue connects Tufts to the path and isn't terrible to bike on, but you do have to share space with cars and that is a reasonable dealbreaker for a lot of people.
@cmilneil It is often a dealbreaker for me! But I actually have a very safe route from West Medford to Davis Square, so this may work for me.
@dankennedy_nu @cmilneil There will be a lot more Somerville biking improvements soon(ish).
@dankennedy_nu The Community Path is part of the much longer Mass. Central Rail Trail, which will someday extend from downtown Boston to Northampton. With the GLX and another segment under construction in Waltham, most of the MCRT will be complete from Boston to Wayland by next spring:
@cmilneil @dankennedy_nu Oh wow. I didn’t know this much had been completed already.
