Energy officials announce nuclear fusion breakthrough, herald a ‘milestone for the future of clean energy’
This is so incredibly huge and it’s gonna take a minute for the masses to realize it.
Kansas Grant@Sonikku Point taken but my first thought upon hearing about that was: "How long will it take to scale that up to generate power commercially? And will it be in time to save us from climate change?"
Just thinking through the possibilities.
@KansasGrant just seems like my whole life it was always “Oh fusion is a few years away”, and I kinda just figured it’d always be that way. For them to achieve a net energy gain after all this time is crazy.
And yeah, ramping up and commercialization gonna take a while yet but still, such a huge achievement. One more “it used to be SciFi” thing to check off the list.

Steph@Sonikku what's amazing to me is that just a few days ago I was watching some YouTube video on Star Trek(ahem) technology, and Pulse acceleration in particular... how it would be a while, CERN, blablabla, not able to create the energy to create the energy (ha), and now I'm sitting here just thinking: THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING and nobody gets my excitement 😭
