Don't forget that this is a lie
Is IRS Hiring 87K New Agents To Audit Middle-Class Americans?

The GOP claimed newly hired tax agents will be "coming after" ordinary Americans.

@juddlegum

The IRS funding will close “tax gap” of ~$381 billion a year.
That could allow us to LOWER tax rates or fund important projects.
The uber-rich must pay their share.

@juddlegum

It boggles the mind that the GOP doesn't realize just how biased they are being toward the mega rich. We know they are owned by them. The thing is, they are also dumb to not realize that the monies they recover from the wealthy, will pay for those 87,000 agents and then some.

@juddlegum
If it weren't for lies, the GOP would have nothing to say.
@juddlegum
Just another piece pulled out of the objective reality Jenga stack.
@juddlegum Why aren't democrats screaming that Republicans are actually complaining about the hiring of customer service reps at the IRS so that the agency can be more responsive and ordinary people (who don't have expensive tax attorneys) can get through to ask questions?
@juddlegum It’s frustrating how regularly these lies rise and shamble around. It’s like whack-a-mole with zombie lies.
@juddlegum I remember last year the IRS explaining that tax refunds were coming back slowly because they lacked the personnel to do the work. So they're hiring the personnel. So damn sinister!
@juddlegum don't forget they also think the imaginary 87k IRS agents are being imaginary armed with imaginary guns too
@juddlegum
Still not getting how you can be mad that the IRS is targeting tax cheats unless you are a tax cheat.
@juddlegum Unbelievable that they're still trying to sell this nonsense.
@juddlegum As expected from GOP, just lies.
@juddlegum not a chance. Thanks Judd
@juddlegum I enjoyed the imaginary facts the GOP shared with us about Obamacare, so it's nice to see they're applying that imagination to IRS budgeting now.

@juddlegum

Hmm... Not seeing this on the GOP Twitter page. Did they delete it?

@juddlegum How do you know this is a lie? It's something the IRS would definitely do.
@juddlegum
Yeah, good thing is they do it all the time …
@juddlegum if it wasn't for dishonest rhetoric republicans would be forced to talk about their non-existent policy ideas

@juddlegum

Thank you for clearly marking that the statement is a lie, rather than just posting the tweet as is.

Repetition cannot create TRUTH,
but repetition can create BELIEF.

Repeat something often enough, & even people who *know* better will start to doubt reality & believe the lies.

"the more we see something repeated, the more likely we are to believe it to be true.”

Thread about the “Illusory Truth Effect” and why it is so important NOT to repeat lies on social media (or elsewhere), even with the intention of debunking them.

@juddlegum yeah bullshit, the IRS stopped going after the rich after the GOP gutted it

How the IRS Was Gutted

An eight-year campaign to slash the agency’s budget has left it understaffed, hamstrung and operating with archaic equipment. The result: billions less to fund the government. That’s good news for corporations and the wealthy.

@juddlegum This is definitely misleading. I do know that the net result of increasing the power and reach of the IRS has disproportionately effected the working class. The working class do not have the tools and means at their disposal to hide money under various levels of shell corporations.
@juddlegum is there not any kind of legal repercussion to telling a blatant lie in print about an organization, which the Democratic Party is? Fraud? Libel? No??
@juddlegum So IRS is not part of law and order? While stealing a chocolate bar from 7/11 is highly criminal defrauding the state seems to be ok for the GOP
