Here's a story about umbrellas:

15 years ago, I bought a Davek Umbrella, which cost me a cool $100. People made fun of me, because, well, $100 umbrella.

Here's the thing: I'm still using the same damn umbrella. The only downside is for Davek, which occasionally tries to sell me a new one -- something totally unnecessary, because the thing never breaks.
