Would spending $180 every 3 weeks to get a hamster's teeth trimmed be justified to you?
@elliaivyworld I'm sorry was that a serious question? Like, who would do that?
@annaraven It was actually, already paid it once
@elliaivyworld I've never even heard of such a thing. That's... aren't there like, things they gnaw on to keep their teeth trimmed?
@annaraven Unless you get a hamster that doesn't like to chew on things
@elliaivyworld Have you asked for a second #veterinarian opinion on how to handle this problem? Sounds to me like your vet is soaking you without offering options to handle it at home, but that's just me.
@annaraven The vet she went to was the cheapest. She has to be sedated, which costs. She eats hard seeds but it's not enough, she won't chew on anything else. It's a bummer, and not sustainable
@elliaivyworld Yeah - that sounds really hard. I'm sorry I didn't take it seriously previously. I hope you find some answers from #hamstodon and that things get better.
@annaraven If it was my hamster it wouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't have paid the first time, but it's my girlfriend's hamster and she has had enough loss for 2 lifetimes already

@elliaivyworld @annaraven I had this problem with one of my hamsters. Her teeth were actually misaligned so she couldn't chew in a way that effectively shortened them.

If hammy doesn't like chew toys, try hard, dense snacks. I actually give mine crunchy dog biscuits with minimal ingredients, like original milk bone minis and nature's animals

Just make sure they dont contain chocolate, xylitol, caffeine, onion, garlic, or leeks

@scoots @annaraven Thank you for the great suggestion
