I wrote a little about why I'm enjoying my Mastodon experience here on zirk.us, why it shouldn't be viewed as a Twitter replacement, and how you might get the most out of your own experience if you haven't comfortably settled in yet.

Masto do, Masto don't? YMMV. — @glecharles — As in guillotine...

Is Mastodon worth your time? Depending on what you're looking for from a social network, your mileage may vary.

As in guillotine...

If you’re already using and enjoying Mastodon, I’d encourage you to write your own take on it and spread it around, because you presumably recognize its potential. Reply with a link, as I’d love to read it, too!

If you don’t like it, that’s cool, but please stop writing uninformed op-eds about it for media organizations that desperately need Twitter to survive because the Fediverse isn’t a good fit for their broken business and engagement models. #cmonson

re: evaluating other instances, there are some new ones for libraries popping up, and while that would seem like a good thing, please be sure to read the server rules before signing up. Or recommending them to others.

This one includes "Political conversations" among its no-nos.

A library instance that avoids political conversations smells a lot like the belief in "neutrality" that continues to plague the profession. #cmonson
