As the prophet #JamesBaldwin reminded us, criticizing America does not mean that one hates America, and often it means precisely the opposite.

“I love America more than any other country in the world and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize [it] perpetually.” - James Baldwin, Notes of a Native Son

@markyadavies Burning the flag, in the context of what the flag actually represents, is a very patriotic gesture and the flag would be, like, “hell yeah! First Ammendment baby!”

@markyadavies James Baldwin always connected with opening my mind to the reasons why we live, love, reproduce, and ✊🏿  To me they are insightful, and come from a beautiful mind.

Meanwhile white people with power be like: My ancestors stold this fair and square with lead balls and steel and sword.

Me: and Small Pox, Polio, and a bunch of other things that thinned their population like nothing before ever had. Then using slave and another name for slave, and you paid them nothing to build everything

they be like: You are always going back to slavery it ended after the civil war

Me: Slavery still exists in America today that rich white people in America are benefitting from. In order to make statements about something like slavery ended after Lee surrendered, you should research slavery not When did Lincoln Emancipate the slaves or whatever self prophecy question you ask Google. Just because America signs a paper and says they agree to it doesn't mean they are telling the truth. Capitalist just figured out a way to keep laborers/Slaves by giving them a different name. It has always amazed me how white folk who have fallen for the ole Okie Doke and they suck off republican candidates who then steal their money promising them exactly what they wanted. Thank God enough of us raised our children to always default to Love someone enough to stand in solidarity with them.
