You’ve probably heard of “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” bc of her heroism on the Titanic, but there’s so much more to her story.

Margaret Brown (her real name) fought for workers’ rights, women’s rights, education & even ran for the Senate - before women could vote.

She established Titanic’s Survivor's Committee & helped erect the DC memorial.

And yet, Brown wasn't allowed to participate in the congressional Titanic hearings simply bc she was a woman. #history #women #HistoryRemix

@Sheril Nice information, Sheril. Thank You.👍👏😊🌹🙏
@Sheril I'm sure they wanted her money though.
@Sheril Thanks for sharing, Sheril. Molly was a charter member of the Denver Women’s Club, which advanced women’s issues. Colorado was the first state to give women the right to vote (1893) and the first state to have women elected to and serve in its state House of Representatives (1894). Thanks, Molly!
@Sheril she was a amazing woman.
@Sheril amazed that Kate Winslett hasn’t made this sequel
@Sheril Molly got her revenge in the Debbie Reynolds musical. No one made a musical about Mr. Astor.

@Sheril She also worked with Judge Lindsey to organize the country's first juvvie system (so child criminals would have the chance to better their lives and not get thrown in the slammer with adult murderers, etc) and ran the KKK out of Denver.

HIGHLY recommend Dr, Kristen Iverson's biography of her. It's the only one endorsed by the Brown family.

(I used to be a docent at her house museum)

@cpttrashpanda oh I’ll look for that! Thanks
@Sheril she’s a legend out here in the Colorado mountains! Visit Georgetown and tour her mountain mansions and impact to the communities and Colorado.
@Troo3 I’d love to check it out the next time I’m in CO!
@Sheril She was incredibly cool! A modern woman before her time. I've been to her houses in Colorado AND Missouri!
@Sheril She was from Leadville and I used to go on class field trips to hear all about her. She was certainly before her time.
@Sheril Men have been afraid of women!

@Sheril

The Molly Brown House Museum in Denver is well worth a visit.

@Sheril
Up until my grandmother was 40, women couldn't vote. Two years before I was born, Jews were being exterminated. Don't get complacent!
@Sheril
A very brave woman but in that day and age women were not acknowledged
@Sheril
Women should be in charge IMO. Look at the giant mess we're in.
Time for women to take over and clean it up
like they always do.
So women should have the next 2000 years to run things if we make it that long.
@Sheril Molly Brown is a critical aspect of every 5th grader in Colorado learning state history.
@Sheril so lucky my family and I were able to visit her house/museum in Colorado. So much cool history!
@Sheril
She was an amazing and determined woman! And she was NEVER called Molly! That was a name reserved for the hired help! My daughter lives a couple blocks from her house in Denver!!
@Sheril just finished serving on jury duty what I learned today is quite a few men don’t actually like or care for women clawed a 41 million dollar settlement down to 6.5 million flocking cheapskates in my opinion
