What have been your favourite #books of the year? Please drop me a few recommendations and (spoiler free) descriptions.

I’m open to most anything but prefer a more lighthearted read, as my life naturally brings me plenty of stressful moments and I don’t want to read about more. (So no scary stuff or thrillers pls)

I have some #Audible credits to burn! Let’s do this.

Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs?: Big Questions from Tiny Mortals - Caitlin Doughty
Interesting stories resulting from answering common questions asked of an American Mortician

Anxious People: A Novel - Fredrik Bachman
Great lovely story from Backman (author of A Man Called Ove) illustrating interconnectedness, mercy and empathy.

Crying in H Mart - Michelle Zauner - Memoir of front singer of the Band - Japanese Breakfast.

@pooblemoo @britt I really liked crying in H Mart too
@IbuMichele @pooblemoo @britt Crying in H-mart is so so good
@eldritchteacozy @pooblemoo @britt and I was worried because of it being about parental relationships but she tells the story so well
@IbuMichele @pooblemoo @britt yeah she really nails the tone and the idea of food as a form of connection
@pooblemoo @britt I had forgotten which one Anxious People was. Oh that was wonderful!
@IbuMichele @pooblemoo @britt I haven't read Anxious People yet, but would like to
@likewise @IbuMichele @britt It took me a bit because there are cutaways that felt a little confusing at first but then I got used to the cadence and it all started falling into place. After I finished I wanted to buy several copies and just give them away as gifts.
@IbuMichele @britt I really hope she continues writing. It was such an intimate view into an intense period of her life.
@britt @pooblemoo I've read all three of those and agree!

@britt Love & Other Disasters by Anita Kelly was a good listen. It’s a queer f/nb romance about contestants on a cooking show falling for each other.

Also, Becky Chambers’ Monk and Robot books are pretty chill. Can’t go wrong with a solar punk tea slinging monk and their new robot pal

@eldritchteacozy these sound great!! Thank you so much.
@britt no prob! hope you like them if you get a chance to check them out
@britt I thought The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi was fun. He describes it as a "pop song". The title is literal - I don't think that's supposed to be a spoiler.
@temetra @britt The audio book was a hoot! Definitely top of my easy/fun reads list.
@britt There's a series of cozy mysteries by Donna Andrews, narrated by Bernadette Dunne, that's really good. Read them in order to get all the humor! I also ran across a narrator named Eilidh Beaton whose voice I really love. And finally, there's a series called the Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch that is a must have. #books
@starkmiriam wonderful recommendations, thank you for sharing them with me.
@britt My pleasure, let me know if you have any favorites I should check out. #bookrastinating #CozyMystery #scifi

@britt

Definitely the best two reads of the last year:

"I'm in Love with the Villainess" by Inori- 5 Volumes about an out lesbian isakaied into her fav. otome. Both very funny and delightfully serious

"Otherside Picnic" by Lori Miyazawa - 7 volumes so far. Two disaster lesbians' explore the supernatural back world of Japan. (Not to be confused with the mediocre anime of that name.)

And if you prefer manga both are being published in manga form as well

@NaraMoore I am alllll about these!! Thanks for the recommendations!
@britt not this year, but I still love the entire Dune series...
@britt I’m reading “NeuroTribes” by Steve Silberman. Interesting how he details the history of autism over the last century.
@philjhorn that’s definitely a wonderful book! I’m currently reading ‘Unmasking Autism’ by Devon Price, highly recommend.

@britt

Anxious People was made into a Swedish miniseries that was really fun to binge, for those who read it (I haven’t yet, but will!)

I liked Song of Achilles, and Circe, both by Madeline Miller. Not a huge mythology fan, but she takes these stories and makes them into something that feels fresh and modern. Did not expect to enjoy them but really did!

@britt @Carolee I'm currently reading Song of Achilles. It's interesting so far.
@britt Piranesi, by Sussana Clarke. It's House of Leaves, but cozy. For real.

@britt Three I've read this year not already mentioned in this thread:

I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy. It's sounds slightly darker than it is, but it's a memoir with good humor.

Broken by Jenny Lawson is hilarious, and I found it weirdly relatable.

Book Lovers by Emily Henry. I'm not normally into romance, but I thought this one was a lot of fun.

@MayWeAllRise thank you! I’ve had Broken on my list for a bit, thank you for reminding me I need to dive in.

@britt

Dawn of the Jedi - first book on the star wars timeline (legends)

Super late bloomer: My Early Days in Transition - comic from a trans artist I like

My life in transition: a super late bloomer collection - sequel comic

Zelda: a link to the past (manga) self explanitory

Dry fasting for rapid healing - fasting from food and water

Queen's Peril - a story about young queen amidala meeting and training her body doubles/guards

@FreiGuy86 wow that a list! Thanks for taking the time to do this :)
@britt Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow was great, and it incidentally has video game nostalgia baked right in! Do check the content warnings to make sure it’s a fit for you, because there are some heavy moments.
@britt A found family space adventure - it does have a few heavy moments but it's very heart warming - The Salvagers Series by Alex White - I'm on the 100 pages of the last book and I have had so much fun.
@britt Oh sorry you said audiobooks - if it's available Runemarks by Joanne M Harris is great.
Wrong Number, Right Woman

A single text message can change everything! Flirting has never been Denny’s strong suit, but so what if she’s too shy to ask women out?...

@starkmiriam thank you for the recommendations and the links! Helps a lot. Definitely going on my list :)
@britt I love sharing books with people! Enjoy!!
