Kyrsten Sinema has been planning this move for years. She’s been openly moving toward this with every hypocritical, self-serving move she’s made. This has been the most cynical marketing effort in American politics and the worst kept secret in D.C.

She hasn’t been a Democrat for years but even “independent” is inaccurate. That word suggests an openness. Sinema’s true political affiliation is herself. Her own narcissism is her political party. Her entire platform is her self-preservation.

@charlotteclymer I honestly didn't realize she wasn't already *not* a Democrat...
@charlotteclymer Its been pretty clear for a long time that her affiliation is for sale to the highest bidder.
@charlotteclymer there is only one word to accurately describe her,,, and it pisses everybody off except Brits, so I'll just leave it at that.
@rcopelander @charlotteclymer I had a friend from Leicester, so I know exactly what word you are talking about.
@rcopelander @charlotteclymer I said it, paired with a few more, when I heard the news this morning.
@charlotteclymer
She's just a symptom of a much larger problem. Until we revamp our political system we will continue to elect leaders who are not only inadequate but down right corrupted
@charlotteclymer She has strong Tulsi Gabbard vibes.
@charlotteclymer And her bank account. It's just about that sweet sweet donor money
@charlotteclymer at this point there is no one else to blame but those who chose her. She's not a mystery
@Fzr600 @charlotteclymer but she was not always this way. She was an awesome state-level player. She and Katie Hobbs were both my state rep/senator. I can't imagine the two even communicate at all these days.
@charlotteclymer
I don't think she even has a hope of winning as an independent. Her play is to split the Democratic vote.
@moliver @charlotteclymer - MY strong guess is that Sinema is smart enough to know she has no chance of winning in 2024, as Dem, as Independent, or as GOP. I' think she will just fade out of politics.. Why leave Dem Party? My guess is that she is just tired of being criticized for doing what she sincerely believes is right.
@AmerLiberal @charlotteclymer
I don't think Sinema has an ounce of sincerity.
@charlotteclymer insert clip of Claude Rains declaring that he's shocked here.
@charlotteclymer Kyrsten Sinema is up for re-election in 2024. Two years that the Arizona Democratic Party has to prepare. One, they must block her from copying Bernie’s scam of running as a Dem to do away with viable competition and to soak up party funding. Two, find a strong Democratic candidate. I’d take a look at state house rep Alma Hernandez.
In any case, Arizona needs to start the process to get rid of Sinema NOW!
@Blueskyfox @charlotteclymer Rueben Gallego is the most mentioned possible candidate, so far. I believe he would be fantastic, if interested.
@azlisa @charlotteclymer Yikes! Yes! I forgot all about him. I was centered on looking at female candidates.

@Blueskyfox @charlotteclymer I think it's a little hostile to call Bernie Sanders' practice a "scam". He reliably caucuses with the Democrats and when he diverges, it's usually an obvious moral stand. Sinema has been years of uncooperative-for-the-sake-of-uncooperative.

This is just her way of saying "I know I'm being primaried and have no chance of arguing my resume to a Democratic audience, so let me hope I can play better in the general."

@charlotteclymer

The question here is, what do Dems do?

I don't mean here, because that's baked in and nothing anyone can do about it. Warnock's win helps and still retains the majority. Unless Manchin bolts too. Which is not an impossible outcome.

So Dems still need to play nice with Sinema and Manchin. Also, 2024 is going to have a lot of Dems on ticket. Dems want to retain that majority. Preferably even increase it.

So, as angry at Sinema as we all might be, she still has leverage.

@charlotteclymer She has never been a Democrat, not for one second
@charlotteclymer All true. But props to her for pulling off one of the greatest long cons in history. Years of pretending to be a Democrat in order to position herself to win a Senate seat in a purple state. And now the final score. Shameless and brazen.
@charlotteclymer She told her voters she was one thing and then was another. Which is fine when you're picking a movie, but not at all OK with your representative #sinema #enema
@charlotteclymer What she did was fraudulent and unfortunately there is no "rule" preventing it. If it had been a Republican defecting from the party, the Republicans would have gotten the matter referred to the Supreme Court. The gang of five justices would have granted relief.
@charlotteclymer Oh I think the shift to Independent signals her openness to being bought by anyone, of any political persuasion. Highest bidder.
@charlotteclymer will this mean that Democrats loose majority rights in the Senate?
@charlotteclymer pseudo centrist is probably the phrase best suited for her.
@charlotteclymer they don't want to be public servants or do the work, they want to be on people's screens and be guests on talk shows
@charlotteclymer Her parents failed her. Her children are embarrassed by her.
@charlotteclymer I have been off of twitter since the musk deal. It’s been easy, except I missed seeing posts from Charlotte. I forgot this app existed. I hope others flock over this way too.
@charlotteclymer literally the definition of self serving. She’s going to get her bag…at the expense of all else.
@charlotteclymer Seems like she has been cynically manipulating her proclaimed party while secretly working with the other guys. Their idea of government service is what’s in it for me.
@charlotteclymer can anyone confirm, did she go from broke to rich since she became senator? And it wasn’t from the salary she undeservedly earned paid by taxpayers #Sinema
