The sensible thing to do:
“Okay, we screwed up yesterday, sorry.”

The corporate thing to do:
[ignore everything on the matter, continue posting marketing stuff]

The batshit thing to do:
Talking to Buzzfeed about how “this is all an organized effort by a woke crowd with bad intentions because we didn’t put a content warning on a food picture two days ago”

For some reason we’re in the timeline where @Raspberry_Pi decided to do the latter.

Raspberry Pi Hired An Ex-Cop And People Are Pissed

“I think what we’re looking at is a dogpile that’s being organized somewhere,” a Raspberry Pi cofounder told BuzzFeed News.

BuzzFeed News

@scy @Raspberry_Pi They're just actively pro-police... Wow, ewwwww.

I really thought that it was just one bad social media person handling the account, but they really do seem to think like that.

@manawyrm @Raspberry_Pi Yeah, I mean, yesterday I was like “okay, let’s see how their apology is going to turn out, then I’ll decide on whether I’m going to support them in the future.”

Today I’m like “you know, forget the apology, there’s no way for my respect to recover from _this_.”

@scy @Raspberry_Pi I really dislike that they apparently got doxxed, that's not okay. But the interview is really absurd.
@sandzwerg @scy I didn't necessarily buy that. I mean, I suppose maybe I should have, but the rest of what they said was obviously fiction, so I assumed it was also.
@kurtm @sandzwerg I wouldn’t go that far to outright call it “fiction”, but they might very well use a definition of “doxxing” that most of us would just call “OSINT” instead.
@scy @Raspberry_Pi just wow. I'm a little flabbergasted...

@scy @Raspberry_Pi

Well, that answers that. The founders of the company are right wing assclowns. So no more Pi projects from me, end of line.

@scy @Raspberry_Pi definitely going to have to step up and learn how to better use my radxa zero and other SBCs now, I have 3 pis in klipper 3d printer setups and a bunch of others in various states of projects, but until they show some acknowledgement I can't get anything new from them

@scy @ I still truly don't care that

1) @Raspberry_Pi hired a surveillance officer to work at HQ, in fact if anything I'm glad they did

2) that people were upset by this move, they can all just go outside for a walk and calm the hell down.

It boggles my mind we are still talking about this at all.

@scy @Raspberry_Pi also, DBrand is still over there literally telling people to "f*ck off"

@utahcon Well dbrand isn’t posing as a fucking charity. A lot of us were buying at @Raspberry_Pi because we thought that they were the good guys™.

As I’ve said elsewhere: I’m not against resocialization of police officers, but “he built cool surveillance tech, that’s why we hired him and not other people from the community” is a ridiculously bad spin.

And being conspiracy-theorizing assholes when the community starts criticizing you isn’t the best move either.

@utahcon @scy @Raspberry_Pi the completely tone deaf responses from the company should be a clue
@rootless @scy @Raspberry_Pi yeah, I don't see it that way. Not like they traded a WNBA player who willing broke international laws for a merchant of death. Nope, they hired a guy. Get over it.
@scy ““I think what we’re looking at is a dogpile that’s being organized somewhere,” Upton said. “There’s obviously a Discord or a forum somewhere.””
Seems like covert surveillance is upsetting to Upton 🤔
@scy @Raspberry_Pi
"Jarvis, what does 'out of touch' mean?"
@scy @Raspberry_Pi That whole thing got real weird real fast. I'm not even looking for an apology or explanation or whatever now. I'm just using other SBCs from now on, period.
@scy @Raspberry_Pi
>“There’s obviously a Discord or a forum somewhere.”

the decentralization fanatics must use some centralized platform to organize the piling of dogging on us. it cannot be we wronk
@scy @Raspberry_Pi Well now I'm going to have to be looking for a new single board computer to run things ...
