Thinking of trying out #pixelfed for a #DailyPhotos type of account. Except I think most pixelfed instances are intended for original photos rather than this type of image...?
I'd quite like to try setting up a #fandom-focused pixelfed instance but there are too many other things to do right now.
If anyone knows of fandom-friendly pixelfed instances, please share!

You can use the same email address to sign up on different fediverse instances. You can use the same username on different instances.
If you want more than 1 account on a single instance, you need a separate email address for each one, as far as I can tell.
E.g. I'm @admin and @lookitmychicken on blorbo.social, so I need different email addresses for each of those.

On other instances (e.g. artisan.chat, pixelfed.au, sunbeam.city) I can use the same email address to sign up, and can use the same username (lookitmychicken).
I try to give them different avatars to give myself the visual reminder of which is which, but the new pixelfed avatar isn't showing here yet.

Most mobile mastodon clients will let you add extra accounts & switch fairly easily between them. (I'm on Fedilab.)
Pixelfed isn't mastodon (it's a fediverse platform for image sharing, similar to Instagram). I'm not sure if I can access it through fedilab, going to try now.

There's no need to do it! It's just something I wanted to try.
Each instance has its own purpose, rules, & user community.
For your own Home timeline, it makes no difference really.
On the Local timeline, you see all the public posts from other users on the same instance.
The Federated timeline shows public posts from all the accounts followed by users on that instance. So it can look quite different from instance to instance.

I wanted to see & post more non-fannish content, so I decided to create accounts on some non-fandom instances.
Artisan.chat is for artists & crafters.
Sunbeam.city is for solarpunk topics.
And then there are fediverse instances that don't run mastodon at all, & have different functions. E.g. pixelfed is for images, WriteFreely is for long-form blogging. Because they're all part of the fediverse, you can follow & interact with a pixelfed account from your masto
@lookitmychicken I literally only just now accidentally figured out how to see other's post in the instance that I (100% randomly because I didn't really know what I was doing) joined. I didn't realize that was a thing. But in the app when I go to Search, one of the options is Community. WTF. Why is it there?? That makes no sense!!
But now I get now why you would want to find instances where people share similar interests 😅
@arboreous what app are you using? Maybe Community is their word for Local or Federated?
The basic Mastodon apps for Android & iOS originally didn't have the Local or Federated timelines visible, so maybe that's why they weren't apparent to you?
Anyway you can always move your account to a new instance if you find one that suits you better! Let me know if you want an invite to blorbo.social, for example.
@lookitmychicken It's the android app. I think Community is the same as Local, but I don't know what Federated is, definitely don't see it anywhere.

@arboreous Oh also I recommend trying Tusky as your Android app instead of the basic Mastodon app -- it has many more features & is much better.
Or Fedilab if you're willing to spend a few dollars. But Tusky is free and it's excellent.

Do you know how to move your followers & following lists to your new account, if you want to do that?

It's pretty easy to get your existing followers to follow your new account. The part I missed the first time is exporting my *following* list and then importing it to my new account.
