The core mastodon app on my phone looks more or less like the bird site. But the ecoevo app and also Chrome don't show how many boosts a post has had.

Any tips on how to customise to show number of boosts, or is this a deliberate design feature?

@snailman same here (w firefox) - need to a click on a post to see boosts/favs
@b_longdon unfortunately, not an option when time limited! I prefer computer viewing, because can more easily click through and read papers etc - sp it would be nice to have some way to quickly see what is getting the most traction
@snailman pretty sure it's a deliberate design choice to try to de-emphasize metrics and the idea that your goal should be to make the numbers go up. And also to force everyone to evaluate posts on their own merits.
@emilydolson expect you are probably right and good idea in principle - but lack of time an issue, sometimes I just want to see the popular posts
@snailman I totally get that! I've been experimenting with this tool that someone wrote to create a "digest" view of mastodon that orders posts in your home feed based on a transparent and controllable algorithm: https://github.com/hodgesmr/mastodon_digest. It's been working really well for those times that I just want to see popular posts
