Whoa. Apple is finally enabling end-to-end encryption for iCloud, meaning any data you back up with iCloud will only be legible on your devices — when enabled, not even Apple can read your data. A huge step forward. https://www.wired.com/story/apple-end-to-end-encryption-icloud-backups/

The company will also soon support the use of physical authentication keys with Apple ID, and is adding contact verification for iMessage in 2023.

@mshelton just check that it's also an encryption system that can be transported elsewhere, so it's not locking you further into the Apple walled garden (as most of Apple's products do)....
