Being on Mastodon these last couple of weeks has really shown how much my account has been strangled and suppressed for so long on Twitter. They don’t believe in free speech, they believe in speech that suits them.

@SpockResists one of the things I'm noticing most is that I'm seeing a roughly proportionate number of comments by folks relative to their output, regardless of status or blue check.

It's kinda refreshing. It likely means folks are seeing my inane posts tooπŸ€ͺ

Here's my Labradoodle just in case...

@SpockResists One thing, for me at least, that's different and better here is that I'm finding it easier to return to my baseline (and preferred) state of believing that most humans are mostly good creatures. Five minutes on Twitter will swiftly disabuse you of such a premise, sadly.

I dunno. IS Twitter an accurate reflection of society, though ... or even of those people there, who behave nastily _there_?

I think it isn't a representative sample of society, and lots of people on SM (weirdly) don't seem to think their behavior there matters, that it's not "real life" – as if the people they're being nasty it even evil to aren't real. 😐 So _maybe_ their behavior there isn't representative either ... if that makes any sense.

@SpockResists Welcome@ Glad you are here. I enjoyed your feed on the birdsite

@SpockResists

Hey, wanna buy some crypto?

(just to bring back the Twitter warm fuzzies :P LMAO )

I am lovin it here :)

@SpockResists are you no longer on Twitter?
@cwebbonline I am, but using it less now, particularly after the run-off in Georgia.
@SpockResists Nobody believes in free speech, and with good reason.

@b2run @SpockResists

Hm. I think certain low-info/low-thinking folks BELIEVE they understand what it means, and that it's possible. And they now loudly parrot those related talking points – including the laughable assertion that normal people (who they call libs) who denounce white-supremacist talking points are somehow AGAINST free speech.

"DON'T YOU BELIEVE IN FREE SPEECHβ€½" Like _we're_ the anti-democratic ones. πŸ™„

None of this is actually complicated, though. See below, e.g.

@SpockResists On the birdsite, i stopped replying to accounts w a lot of followers because it always resulted in a slew of troll attacks. On Mastodon I'm becoming more conversational again.
@SpockResists Yes but you rarely pushed the limits like I did 27 times. πŸ˜‚
@SpockResists I was suspended because I supposedly was targeting a MAGA for harassment.

@GenWilliamTSherman @SpockResists

I got suspended, ostensibly on the basis of HATE SPEECH because I (accurately) called TFG "gold-plated white trash." Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

C'mon now; that's a well-worn, not-very-harsh insult that isn't at all insulting someone on the basis of their immutable trait (here, race), but rather their behavior. They just happen to be white. Am I wrong?

And I still think I should get mitigation points for the weirdl wordplay. πŸ˜‰

@SpockResists Really. Lately I've done several posts over there, had second thoughts, and deleted them. No telling what might come to the attention of Elon the evil troll.
@SpockResists What specifically are you noticing? I was a nobody account on the bird (still nobody here, but omg who cares now? I actually get engagement!), so my experience there was occasional likes and retweets on comments, but almost never getting any action on my own posts. Since I was being suppressed, I just assumed bigger accounts were always boosted.
@jcheroske Firstly, you ARE NOT a nobody. Oh my account on Twitter was suppressed from 2018, but not going to harp on about it. πŸ––πŸ––πŸ˜³
@SpockResists I say that tongue-in-cheek, not self-loathing. We are all no one going nowhere, and that is much more than perfectly ok.
@SpockResists
I could put the most innocent post, and someone would argue my opinion into the ground. The sky is beautiful and blue! No, it’s red sometimes… πŸ™€πŸ€¬
What I miss most, is going to β€œBirdland” for factual information. Now you never know πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ
@SpockResists I concur! I love it here.
@SpockResists Same for me! I'm seeing posts from people here that I haven't seen for years on Twitter.
