This comic hits home, but when you see the 2007 publishing date in the lower right hand corner it hits even harder.

@waiterich that was supposed to be “ooof” like the sound you make being punched in the gut.
@KeithTharp Ha, now it makes sense! Ooooof indeed.
@waiterich It's not just that nothing gets done, it's that we've been angry about all that shit which should have been done in the 80s for 30 years now
@CaffeineSam Good stuff is happening! Just, not enough of it compared to ongoing harms. And, as you note, a lot of valuable time has been wasted.
@waiterich I mean we were on a roll in the early 90s!

@waiterich I have found the camp that does the most damage are those that believe that we should dominate and do as we please. The conqueror.

I couldn't believe when I read a quote by a right wing elected US nut job that said that we are the stewards of the planet that god gave to us and if it gets really bad - god will give them an answer...a way to fix it. Sad.

This past weekend, I couldn't believe how much plastic I was throwing away. It has become every part of our lives.

@ChefWritesAllot @waiterich Not only is it quite stupid to bet your life and all of ours on your religion, the guy should learn it. If he meant the Christian god, IIRC he made quite clear what he thinks of responsibility door yourself.
"You got yourself into it, you get out yourself"
@ChefWritesAllot
It has already got really bad - and we already know a way to fix it. Tell the right wing that we got the message from God - and they must follow the way.

@waiterich 'Environment' is a broad term. As a movement or value system, environmentalism can be traced back to spiritual notions as old as civilization itself. Modern environmentalism started with 19th century poetics, amplified by 1960s and '70s activism, leading to the EPA and other regulation, and has been a fairly constant public subject ever since. It's unclear to me if this comic is about climate change specifically or about environmentalism more generally.
@waiterich Of course, our parents are trapped in the same unfair/exploitative/capitalist/industrialist system….It would be nice if more approached it critically though :/
@waiterich -
The comic is HALF right in that we need solutions rather than blame.
@waiterich It could have been printed in 1957 and been just as relevant.
@waiterich
I’m an early boomer & at 75 I always answered the ageism criticism with “Hey we got rid of the 50s & if you don’t know how big a deal that was? You’re welcome” However over the last decade I’ve stopped yelling “Get off my lawn” & started listening & when possible nurturing & assisting Zoomers, my Gkids. SADLY & somewhat ashamedly it will be up to them to try & survive.
@waiterich magical solution = solution that makes the problem go away with no downsides and requiring no change away from the system that created the problem.
