Children loved to play with toys in #Roman times too: a painted wooden toy #horse on wheels. The head is pierced at the eye for a pull-string. I can still remember my pull along dog and how I used to take him for walks in the yard.

From Karanis, #Egypt, Roman period, 1st to 4th century AD.

@ninawillburger Maybe wheeled toys are universal! From what I've read, they had an exclusive monopoly on the wheel in pre-contact Mesoamerica, which I find fascinating.

I also had a pull along dog! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ It wasn't at all liked by our real dog, a mix of German shepherd and husky... he stayed well out of my way when I pulled the fake one and glared at me in disbelief! ๐Ÿคฃ
Oh, happy memories! ๐Ÿฅฐ
@ninawillburger Here's one from Manchester Museum - also #Roman period #Egypt (photo by me, for the #GoldenMummies of Egypt exhibition).

That notch in the saddle area makes it look like there was an action figure who could ride the horse. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
@ninawillburger
I still have my wooden Fisher-Price pull along dog ๐Ÿถ
It is lovely to think that Roman children enjoyed playing in the same way we do
@ninawillburger ๐Ÿ˜ Itโ€™s got a saddle and everything! Fascinating to see all of these ancient toys ๐Ÿ™
@ninawillburger @ouinne not falling for that one again. last time I let a horse statue in it did not go well.
