So let's try a rewrite. Instead of "the G.O.P. is planning its own counter-investigation" how about...

"McCarthy's letter was the latest sign that the G.O.P. is struggling to find any factual basis on which to investigate the Jan. 6 investigation."

@jayrosen_nyu It won't matter to the magas, who apparently have zero ability to recognize when they're being duped. If they're aiming for the margins, the Reagan Democrat types, they are speaking to people who barely pay attention -- in that case, they are just trying to make noise (so 1/6 will look simply like a squabble across the aisle, something to ignore). Imo.

@jayrosen_nyu Did you catch their climate change articles while on WP? I hope so, because this soil scientist thinks its the real news and all the rest is a diversion as collapse proceeds with business as usual. But hey, maybe the uptick in geophysical activity caused by that change will save us by ejecting sulfur into the stratosphere and keep up under 3C, for a while.
