Happy #WorldSoilDay! I’ve been thinking about soil in a whole new way, since of Standing Senate Committee on #Agriculture and #Forestry launched its major study on soil health and capacity of soil to sequester carbon. I confess, I always took #soil for granted. But no longer. https://sencanada.ca/en/committees/AGFO/witnesses/44-1#?TabSelected=UPCOMING&filterSession=44-1&CommitteeID=1002&PageSize=10&SortOrder=DATEDESC&p=2 #AGFO #soilhealth #worldsoilday2022 #senateofcanada #cdnpoli

#Canada is a huge country. But it’s shocking, how little of our nation’s landmass actually has #soil suitable for #farming. We are remarkably lucky in #Alberta to have so much soil suitable for cultivation. Our soil (and our water) really are remarkable natural resources. #WorldSoilDay #WorldSoilDay2022 #AGFO #SenateofCanada https://images.app.goo.gl/LsXbzGbaNHDoLBTZA

@Paulatics My grandparents ran a farm outside Lacombe. It was very fertile.
@rkd993 That part of Alberta has fantastic soil. We are blessed.
@Paulatics Having spent my summers in the Hastings Highlands of Ontario, what little agricultural land that's there came at great cost -- the topsoil was thin, and every spring brought thousands of granite rocks to the surface. There's a 300+ meter stone fence in Northern Ontario to demonstrate how inhospitable the area is.
