Toot v17.2 is now out!

This is the third in a series of releases that implement support for new Mastodon features. More will come in the near future, but this version offers:

* New photo picker with proper support for albums (iOS 15 and up only!)
* You can now opt in to getting notifications every time a user posts.
* View the edit history of toots.
* Support for adding private notes for other accounts.
* Some bugfixes and internal improvements.

For the next version I will try to tackle dynamic font sizes, since that is basically the number one requested feature at this point. Number two is translations, I think.

Also, the new photo picker is the built-in iOS one, but it has a few limitations that the old one didn't: There's no way to tell it that you can only attach one video, so it will let you select more than one and it will just be silently ignored.

To try to make this a bit less annoying, it now has another new feature: If you start a toot from the "Library" button, it will allow you to select any number of images or videos, and it will split them into multiple posts automatically.

@tootapp I didn’t even know about it 😅 I am new user, and this was also one of my issue, that I didn’t know where local/federated/hashtag timeline is. I thought that this rotary button is only for server change, and I was frustrated that this rotary button is covering part of my screen even when I am using just one server.

@tootapp Where on the roadmap is following hashtags?

I haven’t figured out a clean way to do it without re-searching for the tag in the browser UI since it appears you can’t do anything from Toot! except pin.

I was wondering if you plan to add the feature of choosing languages when posting. I’m using the webpage now when I want to set a language for my posts. Would be great to be able to do it from within the app.

@tootapp funnily enough, I’m now quite used to the small text and find using other Mastodon clients that spread things out more to be a bit jarring. Still, I’m not getting any younger so will be handy to be able to increase the text size when necessary! 🧐

@tootapp also setting the language of a toot would be useful, particularly when one writes toots in different languages. I don’t know what language setting the present Toot will show for example.

NOTE: There seems to be a bug with the new photo picker if you have selected to limit access to the photo library! Selected images may not get added to your post in this case. Trying to figure out a workaround.

@tootapp I don't have the new version yet, so don't know if it will help workaround the bug, but if a user wants to unlimit, go to the iOS settings, search for "Toot", then choose Photos > All Photos.

@jarno They are intentionally not supported. I think this is a bit of a toxic feature that mainly serves to drive addictive behaviour.

@tootapp great, thank you. One thing that would be great is a feature that Mastoot recently introduced: the number of unread posts. It gives an idea on how much behind you are and to decide if you want to read those old unread toots or just jump to the top.

@stefano There is unfortunately no reliable way to do this if you have many unread toots, as the timeline is loaded in chunks.

@shauny Not until I implement the new filtering API, which is only available on v4, I think. I don't want to have to support two different APIs and I do not want to leave users on older servers without filtering so I will not do this until enough servers have migrated.

@tootapp I have the image picker finally (before it was just blank)! But it will not actually attach the image I chose. I can select and click add but it doesn’t actually add the photo to the post.
