If there's a railroad strike, it'll go a long way towards showing who means what they say about supporting workers, or any significant societal change for that matter

A major strike will have a direct impact on your life. We can't make progress for worker's rights if we're not willing to give up the comforts and privileges we gain from their oppression. The same goes for almost any major disruption to the status quo. Ending our dependence on imperialist, capitalist, and environmental exploitation will be hard. It will be uncomfortable. It will even be painful. That's not a reason not to do it

Your neighbors will need support, and you probably will too. Start planning and building community infrastructure and support systems now

@JoeGrowling @efjbgc The strike has both environmental impact & relief at the same time. Goods would be shipped by 16 wheelers instead of rail, which is clearly a GHG increase. OTOH, prices of the goods will increase, thus potentially fewer goods sold & consequently an GHG drop due to reduced consumption. Env. exploitation will happen with or without the strike.
@aktivismoEstasMiaLuo @JoeGrowling All of those adjectives weren't about the strike specifically. We weren't implying that this strike is primarily an environmental issue. Ending environmental exploitation will involve stopping oil drilling, for example, and we've already seen how fuel scarcity can affect people until we have alternatives for transportation and energy. We need to be willing to both tolerate those consequences and support each other in order to minimize them. The statement was that environmental struggle will similarly involve discomfort and inconvenience we should plan for
@efjbgc @aktivismoEstasMiaLuo @JoeGrowling let’s not forget the big four are putting out far more GHG than required because they absolutely refuse to electrify and expand. A little more GHG now is worth it so long as it’s a positive step toward a lot less sooner rather than later. https://youtu.be/hCBI3lPt3o4

@efjbgc Rail workers waited until after the elections to strike. Politicians can’t just provide lip service. If it’s going to be too painful for the economy, maybe they should make an actual compromise instead of shoving something down their throats.
@efjbgc I’m worried about what will happen at my assisted living facility, especially in terms of food, but I’m willing to help anywhere that we’re needed. All I need is a ride.
