I am struggling to understand how we are now in a world where a sneering, bullying, plonker like Dominic Raaaaaab is allowed to rewrite our Human Rights because he doesn't like the ones the "Europeans" use.
A member of the most corrupt government on record, known as "The Turnip", probably most famous for mouthing "Wanker" at Keir Starmer during PMQ's, will formulate one of the foundational documents of our country.
Lunacy!

@HeathenSays
Not forgetting that those "European" rights were proposed by Churchill and that one of the principal people involved in drafting them was British too. The whole idea is lunacy - and the fact that Raab is in charge is beyond parody.

@ClaireCopperman I do wonder how much Churchill really was involved in establishing those documents.

He was complicit in "black friday" where the suffragettes were beaten and quite determindely sent the black and tans into Ireland to brutally put-down "the natives".

His record shows a man only superficially associated with universal human rights.

As ever, I suspect the propaganda has amplified his achievements whilst burying the ugly.

@HeathenSays
Oh, I know Churchill's reputation has been whitewashed, but he was certainly one of the key figures at the Council of Europe that proposed the ECHR. And David Maxwell-Fyfe, a British MP was one of the key figures involved in the drafting, and Britain was the first country to sign it.

I guess what I'm saying is that the Tories imply the UK was somehow bullied into signing this *European* convention, when actually we were among the main instigators.

@HeathenSays
Which must make one questions the values of Voters. While FPP is a terrible system, thatnso many would Vote for them and they're not confined to single digit percentages is a travesty.

Vote Green.

No words….just this #GTTO

@HeathenSays
We're in this world because good people do nothing.

The system is corrupt, enabling a massive power imbalance out of proportion to the real views of the people, which are undermined daily by deliberate normalisation of extremist views by mainstream media.

We know what needs to be done, but nobody wants to be the first to step forward.

@Ecosaurian Agreed, I don't really struggle to understand it, more of a rhetorical flourish πŸ˜€
@HeathenSays
I understand, I look with envy at countries in full scale revolt and shout "that's what we need", but don't know how to make it happen.
I remember seeing Johnson doing a PR stunt in the middle of the pandemic by turning up at a hospital waiting room to bump elbows with people. My thought at the time was why doesn't someone pick up a chair and hit him with it.
Given the opportunity I'd snap in such circumstances.
@Ecosaurian Yes, certainly one of the first against the wall πŸ˜€
