now on the bus home from healesville, just drove through yarra glen and saw this (seemingly) completely isolated level crossing in yarra glen, with a dead-end track on one side and a station building on the other. any folks on #train or #gunzel mastodon have any idea what’s going on here? presumably some sort of restoration work? looked relatively new so i doubt it’s abandoned
@alison1 oh, that’s the other end of the Yarra Valley Railway! The YVR has control of the line between Healesville and Yarra Glen and are progressively restoring the line to link the two towns by rail again. The level crossing in your photo (Melba Hwy roundabout) was rebuilt with boom barriers as part of the Yarra Glen Bypass road project about 10 years ago, one of the first enabling projects for the YVR’s restoration of the railway line. There’s been a bunch of work in the last year rebuilding the railway yard at Yarra Glen and there’s more to come in the near future
