@pixelfed nice. A couple of things I’d wonder: I still think the instance picker is going to be the biggest hold up for people.

And clicking through each rule is a huge PITA (I’ve seen mastodon servers with like 15 rule sets. All valid, but I would hate clicking through all of them).

And does the email link to open the app work in Safari too? I see issues with Mastodon links opening properly and assume it’s because there are infinite urls possible?

@theotherlinh

Good point on the “rules”. Majority of people wouldn't bother reading any of it, just like majority of people just skip reading the ToS/ToA.

Personally, a short bulleted list is much better than clicking/tapping. If one wants a more detailed description, then they can go to the website itself.

Something like how Creative Commons did for the CC Licenses. A human-readable summary of the most important parts, and a legalese version if one wants to go through it.

@pixelfed
@pixelfed Looking forward to finally getting the as I don’t really like homescreen shortcuts. Is there any way to switch instances after creating an account?
@pixelfed super smooth man. Really looks slick 🙌🏻

@pixelfed
Aaaah, that's how @dansup gets all his followers 🙃

JK, great job! Looking forward to the Android beta 👏🏻

@pixelfed just we have to wait till android app will be ready 🙂
@pixelfed It looks so great! Can't wait for it to be available for Android!
@pixelfed Eagerly waiting... it looks amazing

@pixelfed we have very different ideas of “ridiculously simple” 😳

why not just use sign in with apple/google?

@brando While some user might not have concerns about their privacy, some do. So offering a way to create an account without having to rely on big tech companies is important.

Also, I'm not sure how much simpler it would make it. You would still need to enter your Google/Apple password, accept the request for permission, etc. I guess you would only skip the email confirmation step.

@narF no, you don’t need to sign in with any password. At least not for apple. And I only meant it as an optional way to sign up, not to remove the option of creating a password.
@brando Well, maybe someone will want this option enough to write the code needed. Or maybe you can help with that?
@narF I wish I knew how to do that but I really don’t
@brando Thats thé thing: not many people know how to work with Google and Apple stuff. But if you want to help, you could check the code repository if there already a feature request for that and write one if not.
@pixelfed I believe listing the instance rules than using pagination will be much better.
@pixelfed Sorry this is off-topic, but is it normal that I see words being cut like this on pixelfed?

@narF @pixelfed

exactly, right? what is going on. it does not yet have basic functions reliably working, can we work on details of what is existing so far before moving on to build a pixelfed planet where we can send astronauts to?

I have tried reaching out a few hours ago but am lost in the noise I am afraid

@[email protected] @[email protected] #pixelfed #coding #fediverse if you take a look at the textfield on https://pixelfed.social/i/web/post/504587895044185963 does anyone have an idea for a solution? line breaks and new paragraph line breaks are not being recognized, databank does not know what a word is and upon resizing breaks words into pieces and I cannot edit if I spot a typo which is bound to happen eventually. is someone working on correcting those issues or knows of a pixelfed instance that does not have those problems?

Mastodon
@pixelfed can I get into the android beta?
@pixelfed actually looks pretty decent
@pixelfed very cool indeed. Waiting for Android. :)
@pixelfed I really like this onboarding UX. Including the server rules in the steps is a nice touch. Well done!
@pixelfed why is the android app 100mb, is it a server too?

@Muzirian

APK released?

@akhilan yes f droid il und
@Muzirian @akhilan You would have to ask @PixelDroid, our android app is not yet released!
@Muzirian @pixelfed PixelDroid is a bit heavy right now because we're bundling a copy of FFMpeg for video editing. In the future we aim to make it substantially smaller by only including the necessary parts of FFMpeg, but that will take some work :)

@PixelDroid @pixelfed

Ah makes sense, thank you, keep up the amazing wrk

@pixelfed when official pixelfed app will be avaible in Google Play shop ?
