Eugene V Debs was a Dem. He was elected to the IN GA in 1884. Debs led his union in a major 10mo strike against the CB&Q Railroad in 1888. He was instrumental in the founding of the American Railway Union (ARU). Workers at the Pullman Co organized a wildcat strike over pay cuts in 1894.
