#YarnAdvent #yarn #knitting
The theme for this Advent by Moonrise Yarn is 'Wings'.

Day 1 - Kokako South Island: a skein of darkest chocolate with golden ochre bursts

#YarnAdvent Day 2 - Kaka
An impossible-to-photograph-well melange of warm greys with ochre and deep rusty browns
#YarnAdvent Day 3 - Kahukura
Rather love the rich earthy reds of this one 😍
#YarnAdvent Day 4 - Kahuku is bringing the orange 🧑
#YarnAdvent Day 5 - Harris's Tussock.
Seems we're still in with the butterflies (or moths)! I'm not complaining!!
#YarnAdvent Day 6 - Meadow Argus.
Muted teal and lichen brown...
#YarnAdvent Day 7 - Ngutu Pare (Wrybill)
Soft tones of seafoam and shore pebbles.
#YarnAdvent Day 8 - Blue Tiger (back with butterflies)
Softest mint with dark chocolate chip speckles - not actually an ice cream, sorry... And pretty much impossible to get a good photo of πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
#YarnAdvent And here's the first 8 days all together... I am swooning!!
(and I feel a shawl project coming on...)
@curiousjay They're beautiful! Thanks for sharing them 😊
@curiousjay I love your yarn advents. Makes me want to take up knitting. But not enough to actually do it! πŸ˜‚

@DeaXLena Well, collecting yarn can be a separate hobby...

Or maybe I can knit you something sometime!

Im glad you're enjoying me sharing them.

@curiousjay Now collecting yarn sounds like a hobby for me!
#YarnAdvent Day 9 - Matuku Moana (White faced heron)
Subtle sea greens with grey feathering through
Oops. Broke the thread...
Here's Day 10 https://mastodon.nz/@curiousjay/109462803077213089

#YarnAdvent Day 11 - Pekapeka
Deep soft brown for a beautiful bat
#YarnAdvent Day 12 - Pepi Pouri
Once again, my phone camera does not do this skein justice! It is delicious chocolate brown shot through with russet and ochre tones.
Critter of the Week: pepe pouri butterfly

This week's critter is the pepe pouri / black mountain ringlet butterfly to help celebrate International Mountain Day, which is next Wednesday.

@curiousjay #4, #5, #6 might be my favorites so far, but they are all beautiful. I hope I will find some yarns as beautiful as yours here, on the other side pf the world :)
And as a beginner knitter, I look forwars to working with something as beautiful as these. Thank you for making me want to knit a lot more :)

@dp Good choices! And glad to have provided some inspiration.

(She does ship internationally, too! And there are amazing dyers all over the place)

@dp Also, if you need knitting support, don't be shy about reaching out.
Always happy to chat yarn and knitting!
@curiousjay here is the one I am knitting at the moment:
@curiousjay @dp : You can also show your nearly ended snood ! πŸ˜‰
He is way more advanced than me : he is knitting during my Long Covid rehabilitation sessions ! πŸ˜…
We started at the same beginners session πŸ˜‰
Here is mine πŸ˜ƒ
@alexvolkpit @dp That is lovely! Beautiful colours 😍
@curiousjay and here's my first knitware piece ever. An ongoing snood, just as @alexvolkpit :)
@dp @alexvolkpit Oh, that is knitting up beautifully 😍 Go you!!
@curiousjay @dp Here it is! He is knitting at 3:30 in the morning πŸ˜…
I wanted to sleep πŸ˜…πŸ˜΄πŸ˜„
Actually we should, we have a full day tomorrow: it’s nearly Christmas πŸ˜‰
Have a nice day @curiousjay !
@alexvolkpit @dp Sleep is overrated! Especially when there's knitting to do!
It's 3.30pm in the afternoon here in New Zealand - though I do actually want to fall asleep πŸ˜‚
@curiousjay Sleep is very important for me! But the current task can always keep going a bit longer, if pleasant πŸ™ƒ

@alexvolkpit
@curiousjay thanks! πŸ™πŸ’šπŸ˜Š @alexvolkpit
@dp Ooh, that is pretty 😍 Love the colour combo! (I love stripey yarn!)
@curiousjay I just looked at https://moonriseyarnco.com/ and although some beautiful skeins are still up there, it looks like you almost emptied the shop! I would have picked the same ones :)

@dp πŸ˜‚ I have bought a few skeins there, and so has a good friend!

This was a pre-order yarn advent. Keep an eye out in April and October for the next ones! She usually does them for each Solstice.

@curiousjay Oh, lovely, I'll watch out!
Broke the thread again πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Right, back in order, and onwards... #YarnAdvent Day 15 - piwakawaka
Shades of sassy warm grey and mossy green that are as tricky to photograph as the bird itself... (at least the yarn stays still)
#YarnAdvent Day 16 - Tuke (Rock wren)
A glorious golden olive today
#YarnAdvent Days 9 to 16
These feel like a bush walk beside a rocky steam πŸ’š
Sorry, forgot the alt text for this:
8 skeins of yarn fading from grey blue through browns and earthy greys to bright olive
#YarnAdvent Day 17 - Pepe ma (Cabbage White butterfly)
A much greener sagey colour than the photo suggests - about the color of one of those caterpillars chewing on your brassica...
#YarnAdvent Day 18 - Puriri
Gorgeous green and golds for our biggest moth πŸ’š
@curiousjay ooooh that's my favourite so far
@FuVenusRs I'm hoping there'll be some more greens coming after this one... 🀞
@curiousjay That is very pretty!
@craftygardennz It's even more yellowy in real life - deliciously mossy!
@curiousjay That one's pretty 😊
@curiousjay I can’t wait to see them all together at the end
@nona80_swanette Me, too!! I promise there'll be an all-together pic at the end!
@curiousjay these are gorgeous. How much in a skein? I've got a similar one with 24 colours, and I've no idea what I'm going to do with them yet
@YGathGoch These are 20 grams of 4 ply, so I presume about 75 to 80m.
I'm thinking these ones will become a triangle shawl knitted sideways. My last advent become a striped jersey - using about 18 of these and a touch of stash yarn.
If you're on Ravelry, the pattern search has a filter for miniskeins - which brings up some 'interesting' options and some cool ones!
@curiousjay ooh, stripy jersey, I like that idea. I shall have a browse of Ravelry, haven't been on there for a while.
@YGathGoch I used 'Ravello' by Isabel Kraemer for mine. I find it a good base pattern for me and I just play with my own stripes.
Happy hunting and playing!!
@curiousjay I just want to hug every single one of these yarns
@FallenRedNinja we'll have to get you and my yarn stash together sometime...
@curiousjay I’ll just pat them alllllll
@curiousjay phwoooooooar 🀀
Are those Fibre2Go fancies?
@FuVenusRs It's the Moonrise Yarn Co advent. She's an Otaki-based dyer (whose yarn I adore!) https://moonriseyarnco.com/

@curiousjay did you dye and spin it? it's lovely
@coloradoangel No, I don't have that skill! It's created by a local dyer here in New Zealand: Moonrise Yarns https://moonriseyarnco.com/
She dyes full skeins and fleece, as well as these amazing advents.
