This is because they create the very excellent Calckey which does many things that Mastodon can't do. Such as:

1. Nested comments
2. Quoted boosts (renotes)
3. Channels and groups
4. Photo galleries
5. File hosting

Calckey is so pretty and rich in features, it actually puts Big Social to shame!

I should also mention that Calckey is a fork of Misskey. It is NOT a fork of Mastodon.

The reason that @thatonecalculator's fork is so important is because Misskey has not yet been fully localized into English.

As well, Calkey preserves many features that Misskey used to have. They even add features that Misskey has never had.

In short, if you like Misskey but are looking for something easier to use, then Calckey is it!

In fact, this is so feature rich, it does *most* communication that you'll ever want:

Just want too mention that @thatonecalculator is mostly coding Calckey all by themselves. This is not their job right now. They do it entirely as a hobby.

Now do I think Calckey *should* be their job? Absolutely.

I definitely believe that Calckey could be their big impact on the world!

I'm not the only one who thinks so. The Calckey project is only 4 months old, and it already has 40 instances running.

@atomicpoet @thatonecalculator only thing that's stopping misskey/calckey adoption is the lack of support in clients, if tusky and fedilab had support it would easily be the dominant force

@atomicpoet @thatonecalculator Misskey is in Yunohost, calckey and foundkey are not. Don't try to convince me to ditch yunohost 😉 Perhaps if there's a yunohost package available, I might consider moving from misskey, but I'm quite pleased with it at this moment.

@duponin @atomicpoet @thatonecalculator I have two vps's running yunohost. My mastodon (this myfed server) is my main. The other one is for playing. I will think about the docker stuff (I've had no fun with docker yet..)

it's more that Yunohost is made to manage everything, when you do manual edits in, it can break or stop editing files (to prevent overwriting your manual edits)

with calckey/foundkey being pretty close forks of misskey, it would be pretty easy to adapt the packaging for yunohost

it would honestly save you from weird behaviour from yunohost

Considering that Calckey is a fork of Misskey, it should be technically possible to modify the Misskey installer to make it download Calckey instead. Guess I have a hacking exercise for this weekend!

Big warning though - I couldn't manage to move my Pleroma instance to this, so don't expect this installer to be updated regularly if at all. I might release a patch to apply at regular intervals on top of Misskey though
